ESL Orientation Program

ESL Orientation Program

All incoming ESL students attend a week-long orientation program in August before other students arrive for the start of school.  ESL teachers provide instruction on American education and culture; English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills; tips for test-taking and study habits; and Phelps-specific resources and support services.  In addition, students start to build new friendships through off-campus trips to amusement parks, baseball games, college campuses, and nearby Washington, D.C. and New York City.

The ESL Orientation Program helps new students “hit the ground running” when they start classes. Just as important, it starts their preparations for the TOEFL test, a key to their becoming strong candidates for admission to top-ranked American colleges and universities.
