The Phelps School launches the Post-Graduate Basketball Program with new Head Coach

The Phelps School is proud to welcome Ashton Gibbs as the Head Coach of our newly launched Post-Graduate Basketball Program.

Gibbs has enjoyed success both as a player in his own right and also at the coaching level. At Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J., Gibbs was the school’s all-time leading scorer and later helped the University of Pittsburgh to three NCAA tournament appearances between 2008-09 and 2011-12. He was Pitt’s third all-time leading free-throw shooter and finished his career eighth on the Panthers’ all-time scoring list with 1,748 points in 137 games, setting a school record of 297 career 3-pointers. Additionally, Gibbs was named a Big East All-Academic Team member twice and, as a junior, earned first-team All-Big-East and Associated-Press honorable mention and All-American honors. He was also instrumental in helping The Panthers to the 2010-11 regular season Big East Conference title.

On the global stage, Gibbs, who won a gold medal as a member of the United States’ U19 2009 FIBA World Championships team, represented Team USA at the 2011 World University Games as an undergrad.

After completing his degree in communications in 2012, Gibbs launched an international playing career that spanned almost a decade and included stops in Greece, Spain, Romania, Lebanon, Mexico, Slovenia, Dominican Republic, Belgium and Argentina. For the past two seasons, Gibbs has served the basketball staff at Duquesne University.
