Workshop Goals: To help international students improve their English skills through speaking, reading, writing and listening. To give international students the pathway to succeed in an American boarding school by having the opportunity to acclimate to our culture in a fun and supportive environment. To better prepare international students for the TOEFL test, thus enabling them to be stronger candidates for American colleges and universities of their choice.
Who must attend: ALL new incoming International Students
Dates: August 29, 2017 through September 4, 2017 (Note: Registration begins on August 29 at 1:00 pm and may move-in after)
Cost: $3,750 (all inclusive – includes transportation from Philadelphia Airport to The Phelps School, instructional materials, trips, and activities)
9:00 am to 12:00 pm – Morning Instruction
Students complete fun and engaging classwork including a welcome and introduction to Phelps, tools for success in the classroom and in social settings, an overview of American cultural differences & etiquette, TOEFL preparation, and the administration of assessment tools to determine appropriate class placement.
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm – Lunch
Students enjoy an on-campus buffet luncheon with teachers and staff as well as some free time to prepare for the afternoon activity.
1:00 pm – Afternoon/Evening Activities
Experiential off-campus activities such as a tour of downtown Philadelphia, minor league sports competitions, cookouts, a visit to the beach and an amusement park, overnight camping, and a day trip to Washington, DC or New York City. Evenings on-campus include sports competitions, movie nights, and down time to relax and socialize.
