ESL Summer Workshop

Program Overview

Workshop Goals for International Students:  Improve English skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening.  Get acclimated to boarding school culture in a fun, supportive environment.  Prepare for the TOEFL test and become stronger candidates for admission to top-ranked American colleges and universities.

Who must attend:  ALL international students entering their first year at Phelps

Dates:  August 29 through September 4, 2017

Cost:  $3,750 (includes transportation to Phelps from the Philadelphia Airport, trips and activities, as well as instructional materials)

9 am to noon – Morning Instruction
Students enjoy fun, engaging classwork that introduces them to expectations at Phelps and provides tools for success in the classroom and in social settings.  They begin preparations for the TOEFL and take assessments to determine their appropriate placement in courses.

Noon to 1 pm – Lunch 
Students enjoy an on-campus buffet luncheon with teachers and staff as well as some free time to prepare for the afternoon activity.

1 pm – Afternoon and Evening Activities 
Off-campus activities include a tour of downtown Philadelphia, minor league sports events, cookouts, a visit to the beach and an amusement park, overnight camping, and day trips to Washington, DC, and New York City. Evenings on campus include games and sports, movie nights, and down time to relax and socialize.
